BFL ahead of itself

- BG Reporter

The teething Botswana Football League ( BFL) has made premature announcements of resumption of the league as the newly formed league structure has not fully taken form. There were more questions than answers during their maiden press conference when they announced that the league will begin by the end of July or beginning of August.

This announcement comes when the top brass of the BFL is yet to have a sponsorship deal for both the league and other tournaments that will see the league take flight immediately. The recently appointed CEO, Solomon Ramochothwane said they are yet to announce the sponsors as they are currently sitting at the table with potential sponsors.

Moreover, he said they will have streaming platforms for spectators to watch the games since they will not be allowed at matchday venues. Quizzed on how they are going to mitigate the high cost of data for supporters, Ramochothwane said the BFL is now a business entity and will not go all out to mitigate for the data of the supporters.

However, the CEO could not respond to other questions as he said he was pressed for time and had a series of meetings. By press time, the CEO could not be reached on his phone.

The BFL has brought about new faces to football and a new dawn is promised. Pundits and fans alike are waiting with abated breath to see how the teething league structure will fare on its wee hours and if the new faces have something which is totally different from the usual. Expectation is that the newly appointed board members and CEO are not all about talk without actions.

Football has been on a long layoff of 15 months, without action.

The recovery period will face challenges of match day logistics, payment of full salaries to players and day to day running of the club offices, among many other things.
