Orapa United ready for Football

- BG Reporter

Orapa United is a team fully prepared for the new football season which is slated to start late July. The Ostriches have an outline on when and how they will be back in action, and to satisfy the Botswana Football League’s new health guidelines.

Speaking in an interview this week, team mouthpiece, Amelton Gaefhele said the team has already received the guidelines and has begun testing their players and running medical checks on the entire team, including the technical wing and it will go on until the end of next week. Moreover, the team will launch its new kit and website as their technical sponsor, Unmbro has scored a five year deal with the Orapa based outfits. “We have a strong relationship with the sponsor and we know they provide quality sport wear; they will provide us with match day kits, training kits and tracksuits amongst other things,” Gaefhele said in an interview this week. Gaefhele said the new website will be a vehicle of communications to reach out to their large fan base that is spreading across the country. He added that the website will also help the team move into a digital era where they can advertise and sell their products and services to their supporters through the website. He said that the team has been complying with all the club licensing requirements and is ready to meet the BFL halfway in that regard. “We are within the last phase of transformation, we are only left with taking the team from its societal status and moving it to a more commercial status. We are waiting to involve our fans in the process and then we will be good to go.” The Ostriches is one of the most outstanding teams in local football as the Debswana Mine backed team has been able to flex its muscle, winning a couple of trophies which include the Mascom Top 8 and the Orange FA Cup. However, the team has been eluded by the league title, which will be its target in the newly formed BFL. The team, coached by the experienced and decorated tactician, Mogomotsi Mpote has been able to find the mojo in local football, assembling a star studded side with the likes of Gofaone Mabaya, Omatla Kebatho, Tapiwa Nyamanjiva, Thabang Mosige, Alen Ndodole, Gape Gaoganwe, Onkemetse Powe and Elias Mbatshi, amongst many others.
