BFA embarks on coach development
Botswana Football Association ( BFA) Technical Director ( TD), Dr Carolin Braun says the association will focus its attention on coach development, starting with completing coaching course that were left hanging and are now targeted to complete by September this year. Speaking in an interview this week, Dr Braun said the BFA has a coaching pathway and they intend to follow it. Their focus for now will be on the D License completion to ensure that coaches qualify for C and B Licenses.
“We need refresher courses for coaches whose licenses have already expired and we are organizing those courses with CAF; this is mainly to ensure that our licenses are still valid.”
Quizzed on timelines, Dr Braun had this to say: “Remember we had COVID- 19 on our way, we couldn’t finish courses due to Covid- 19 but we will definitely continue with the course we started; there has been talks with the instructors about the best time for conclusion of those courses this year.”
She said they are setting up the Coach License System according to the CAF Convention and we are currently focusing on the B Licenses but we have a bit of room for the C License. “We are getting our house in order and we want to provide coaches with a full package of going through all the courses.
“We want those who have already started to make a big foundation while we refresh the ones who have been in the game for a long time.”
Furthermore, she said the update will soon be published on the BFA website, which will include a training and service section whereby coaches can log in and find different exercises to help them throughout their coaching sessions.
“We need to be more professional, have our own stuff on the website and make sure it benefits us. We will also release a return to play videos to help our coaches with exercises to do after a long layoff.”
