The finest daddy in the kitchen

- PHEMELO RAMASU BG REPORTER

The finals of Botswana’s version of Master Chef are slated for this Saturday. Planned to take place on the gardens of Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino, it is going to be a very interesting and challenging competition. Three amateur Chefs namely, DJ Gouveia of RB2, Leatile Bakwena, Corporate Affairs Manager at BITC, and Bino Rasedisa, head of Consumer, Private & Business Banking for Standard Chartered will be showing off their skills in the kitchen.

The three finalists sailed through the competition to get the place in the finals over the past couple of weeks. The theme behind this competition is that the dads are tasked to prepare meals worthy of an award, and a meal that children will enjoy and wipe a plate clean. The Dad’s Cookout Battle is an initiative of UNICEF and Men and Boys for Gender Equality, in partnership with Avani Gaborone Resort and Casino. The cook out is held under the theme: Reimagine Parenting. The whole idea behind the competition, which is held during the month of June and happens to be set aside as the Global Parenting Month, is to break cultural norms and stereotypes, as well as to inspire men to also do their part in the kitchen. The com

petition has been bringing together different fathers from different fields and professions such as the Media, and the corporate fields.

On Sunday, during the occasion of Father’s Day, the versatile Rasedisa was face to face with two other Dads, namely Bonny Thebenyane, Head of Business Services Debswana and Cowell Habana, General Manager of BECI. It was incredible to see how the fathers were comfortable wearing aprons and working on their various dishes. It was even more amazing to hear that some of them even knew and were familiar with various cooking terminology such as sauté.

The Dads also happen to have a

trick or two when it comes to presentation and plating of their scrumptious dishes. And that is a testament that this Saturday, it will not be a walk in the park for the three finalists. Desmond Lunga of Men and Boys for Gender Equality, explains that they partnered with UNICEF as they wish to create conversation around parenting. The event, he says, comes at a time when June has been set aside as the Month of Parenting. He also notes that they want to educate men and enlighten them about their role in their children’s lives. He also says that they hope to showcase and break the gender norms that men should not be in the kitchen.
