- Edward Bule BG Correspondent

Mayor of Francistown Godisang Radisego has said that the June 2021 Full Council meeting which was held virtually was fruitful.

One of the motions requested the Ministry of Basic Education to consider constructing extra toilets and additional classrooms at Setlalekgosi Junior Secondary School as existing toilets are not proportionate to the number of learners at the school. The Council also moved that due to the increase in the COVID- 19 cases, there was need for an increase in the Emergency Medical Services ( EMS) such as ambulances and other equipment as well as staff.

Among the resolutions, the local government wants government to expedite the vaccination of teachers as a matter of priority because, according to the Mayor, teachers are constantly at risk of contracting the virus.

Radisego and his colleagues want police and the army deployed to reintroduce roadblocks, patrol around the city to ensure strict adherence to the COVID- 19 protocols.

Yet another resolution, according to the Mayor’s media briefing, was that, “Office of the Town Clerk should prepare a position paper outlining all the processes and legislation that delay the implementation of projects such that Councillors, as policy makers, should embark on a critical review of such”.

Over and above that and eager to take the private sector aboard in the development of Francistown, the FCC resolved that a high level consultative engagement between Council and the private sector be arranged by the Office of the Mayor.

It was resolved that “The Office of the Town Clerk should avail a position paper with clear timelines to address environmental issues such as illegal dumping of waste and vegetation control around the city”.

The Mayor noted that due to unemployment and rural urban migration there has been an influx into the city by informal traders rendering law and order difficult to maintain.
