- IRENE SHONE BG CORRESPONDENT

Located in the suburbs of Phakalane, at Mowana Park Mall, Lefkara Dental spa, provides both dental and facial aesthetics services.

Medical spas are rare in Botswana, and owner of Lefkara Dental Spa, Dr Bonolo MannathokoMolefhe says they exist to fill the gap. To her, skin care goes hand in hand with care of teeth, and these two will always complement each other as beauty features. This is why from her initial qualification of Doctor of Dental Surgery ( DDS) and Master of Clinical Stomatology Orthodentics ( MCS- Ortho), she had to also venture into Aesthetic Medicine, in which she holds a certificate to balance her knowledge in both dental and facial aesthetics fields.

The spa boasts of two dental rooms, two aesthetic rooms, a sterilising room and their famous analysis room, where their work starts. Dr Mannathoko- Molefhe tells BG Style that, it is very important to do an analysis first before recommending any type of treatment at their spa. As a results, everything begins in the analysis room where they use a Visia skin analysis for the facials and Dental x- ray machines to pin- point problem areas. “The Visia skin analysis is our first step to a closer look into one’s skin health and needs, because through a full visia analysis we can recommend the best home care and treatment protocol for optimal results,” she explains. She adds that she has always liked the beauty industry, as she was also a survivor of acne. She had to enrol with American Academy of Aesthetic Medicine in South Africa in 2018 and did other short courses such as Advanced Chemical peels, Hyperpigmentation and

Micro needling, still in the field of Aesthetics. For their skin treatments, they offer; skin peels, derma blading, revitalization treatments, collagen induction therapy ( micro needling), phototherapy, injectables ( Botox and fillers) as well as Hydrojelly masks. Their skin peels, she says, are treated as exfoliating solutions applied to the face, neck areas for improved appearance and accelerated cell renewal. They offer two types of peels, being Chemical peel and Green or Natural peel. “Our Green peel targets all skin concerns as it has eight different herbs,” she says, clarifying that they can however not recommend green peel for sensitive skin, which is why it is critical for them to do a skin analysis first. Their Visia analysis machine also helps in identifying spots, texture, pores and automatically detects true skin age, which, may help one to know how to best take care of their skin. Dr Mannathoko- Molefhe notes that she is impressed with the fact that ever since the pandemic, people had time to reflect on themselves and it is like a lot are now focused on taking care of their beauty wellness as lifestyle. Their photo or Light Therapy is also commonly in demand as it helps maintain results. Dr Mannathoko- Molefhe says that sometimes the skin may react as a result of incorrect products that one may be using at home, hormonal and dietary factors.

So their treatments are basically for medical facials and targeted at killing bacteria on the surface of the skin. She further explains that a series of sessions are needed to get rid of concerns such as acne, so people shouldn’t just get one treatment and expect their concerns to go away, as for some, six sessions may be needed to get results, depending on assessments. Their dentistry includes; braces, teeth whitening and teeth cleaning. Dental x- ray machines determine the treatment plan that one needs. “We look into the treatment plan, and consider risks and complications that a client’s condition has before we could carry out any treatment,” she explains. She highlights that braces are different and each serves a different purpose, which is why they have to do an analysis first. They have metal braces and ceramic braces at their spa. Dr MannathokoMolefhe clarifies that braces may be used for malalignment of teeth, cross bites, midline diastema, crowding, protruding of teeth and habits like finger sucking. On the other hand, they also have clear aligners, which are said to be invisible braces. This is a cap that one wears over teeth and changes it fortnightly, depending on one’s condition and it is mostly used for mild cases. Factors such as difference between upper and lower teeth are looked into before recommendations on the type of braces to use. Dr Mannathoko- Molefhe says this is the reason why she believes facial skin care and dental care complement each other, as women, in particular, believe in perfection when it comes to their overall look on the face.
