One of the most decorated elite teams in Botswana football, Gaborone United, are set to construct a state of the art stadium facility in Bokaa Village and construction is expected to start this November. The near 10 000 capacity stadium in the heart of the Kgatleng district will be unlike any other privately owned stadium facility in the country as it will consist of a lodge, apartment houses, Olympic size swimming pool and provide at least 70 people with permanent employment. Expected to cost a staggering P70 million, the facility is the brain child of GU financier and Gaborone business mogul, Nicholas Zakhem. In an exclusive interview with BG Sport this week, Zakhem laid out the plans for his vision that is set to completely transform the landscape of domestic football.

“Indeed it’s our intention to build a sporting facility in Bokaa village, off the A1 road, the sporting facility will consists of a football stadium of capacity of 8000 inclusive of 100 VIP seat and 100 VVIP seats. The stadium, besides having the host change room, showers and toilets, will also have similar facilities for the visiting team and game officials,” the business mogul said.

The facility will include a medical or physiotherapy lounge, a gym facility plus a trophies and replica stores or display. The stadium will have bathroom facilities for the fans, both male and female, in addition to the handicapped facilities.” Furthermore, Zakhem said there will be an open area parking at the stadium and not far from the facility a training pitch made of artificial turf will be constructed.
