MAKEUP WITH THE EYEBROW QUEEN

Beauty With Bobo sets the trend with eyebrows

- IRENE SHONE BG CORRESPONDENT

It does not have to be heavy makeup all the time, as makeup is meant to only enhance one’s features without necessarily changing them. For the owner of Beauty With Bobo Makeup, Oarabile Pheto, excellently done eyebrows set the tone for good makeup. She believes in clean makeup and shares with BG Style that, a secret to good makeup is eyebrows. “Eyebrows should be proportionate with other facial features, which is why measurements are involved when it comes to micro blading,” she says. Her journey in the makeup industry was influenced by her own eyebrows. She naturally has thick eyebrows, but always wanted to give them a desirable shape. “I felt that my eyebrows were just too thick and obviously too much, so I started to get lessons on You Tube for my own consumption,” she says. In fact, she considers herself to be the eyebrow queen.

As time passed by, people started noticing her neatly done eyebrows, she says, stating one that they would ask her to do their eyebrows too. “I didn’t take it seriously at first, but the demand got high that I eventually saw this as a business opportunity,” she says. It was in 2016, when she started venturing into makeup, but set up officially last year. Pheto notes that she is also well- known for her glimmering gloss and lip liner application, because she tries to go natural on her clients’ makeup look. “A lip liner redefines one’s lips and a lip gloss is a girl’s favourite makeup,” she says.

She uses the main types of eyebrow techniques, namely; Ombre and feathered, to achieve her desired results. Pheto explains that, with feather eyebrows, hair is stroked, and should look very natural and basically give the illusion of eyebrow hairs. “Ombre eyebrows can be a bit dramatic, as they are meant for someone who likes to wear more makeup,” she explains. She highlights that for every type of makeup that she does, she selectively chooses between these two techniques accordingly. She mostly does corporate makeup, photoshoot makeup and bridal makeup as well.. “For bridal makeup, I do both ombre and feathered techniques on the brows to give the bride that amazing look,” she says. Nonetheless, she explains that bridal makeup has to be subtle.

Pheto clarifies that dark eyebrows are a big no in the makeup industry, and says makeup artists should focus on eyebrows more if they want their art to stand out. “If there is one thing that distorts good image when it comes to makeup, then it’s making dark eyebrows,” she says explaining that this hides other features and contouring.

What sets Pheto apart from other makeup artists, is the fact that she does not completely disregard her clients’ wishes but steps up to offer the best look according to one’s shape, complexion and the type of event they are attending. She uses her lounge space as her intimate beauty boutique for her work, and aims at owning a walk in makeup based salon one day. She is of the view that with the right equipment and right skills, then the local beauty industry could reach the international standard. “I had to make sure that I get the right equipment for my work, and I anticipate owning an eyebrow pencil and lip liner brand in the future,” notes Pheto.
