Protea Hotel enlists employees in a Wellness Club

- BG REPORTER

Amidst the lingering effects of Covid- 19, and its burden on the hospitality industry, Protea Hotel by Marriott Gaborone Masa Square has recently introduced a much needed wellness programme for its employees. Established in June, the Wellness Club started as a walking club, and slowly introduced more activities. Today, the club also has activities that include running and Yoga, says the Sales and Market

ing Manager, Botho Mogami.

As Botswana temperatures get warmer, they are now looking into introducing swimming lessons and will also partner with experts in the field of mental health and financial acumen, she says. Coordinated by Boikanyo Moribame, the Marketing Executive and Nkamogelang Samson, the IT Administrator at the hotel, each session has a number of highlights.

And these include a relaxed mind, relieved stress and tension and a renewed connection with oneself. Other highlights include an improved energy level and enthusiasm about life especially in these Covid- 19 times as well as fostering a happier working environment and increased productivity.

She explains that the employee wellness programmes were established by the hotel in order to improve employee mental health and also to help individuals overcome the stress of the pandemic. “We have been through breakdowns triggered by the loss of loved ones - family, friends and colleagues, the real pain is the reality during these harsh and trying times,” she explains.

She points out that the good thing about this wellness programme is that even amongst the dark cloud of Covid- 19, this has increased employee morale. “It has also introduced a sense of community and we find that employees are happier when they are appreciated, not to mention the reduced health risks,” she says.
