MPS ALSO OBTAIN BY FALSE PRETENCES

-

Section 15 ( 2) of the Constitution is very clear: “No person shall be treated in a discriminatory manner by any person acting by virtue of any written law or in the performance of the functions of any public office or any public authority”.

If that is indeed so, why does the Botswana Police Service continue to discriminate against petty scammers but leave another scammer group unsullied – politicians? BPS routinely names and shames scammers who obtain by false pretenses with “wanted” posters, which it posts to its Facebook page. On the other hand, politicians continue to obtain votes by false pretenses (“I will build you a dual carriageway to your cattleposts”) but BPS never names and shames them. In the interest of fairness, MPs should also be charged with “obtaining by false pretenses” and BPS should post their “wanted” posters to its Facebook page. Obtaining MPs’ pictures can’t be a problem because the National Assembly already has a poster with their mugshots.
