Farrell outsmarts Covid- 19
Hosts boxing shows across Africa
Botswana based international boxing promoter and Chief Executive Officer of Global Boxing Stars ( GBS), Scott Patrick Farrell has attributed his recent success to a strong network, good local partners, sponsors and sports commissions across his network. Since the COVID - 19 pandemic struck, Farrell and his international partners have managed to host a number of Pan African boxing events in the continent while sports was crippled by the virus across the world.
“All over Africa, we have six shows in Tanzania a year, six in SA and we are also opening Kenya and Uganda in January.” Farrell’s next event will be a boxing card titled, Rising Stars in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on 13th October. The event, scheduled for the state of the art Dome, is expected to feature GBS up and coming heavyweight, Ardi Ndembo from DR Congo. Quizzed on how he manages to host events during the pandemic, Farrell said: “It is tough, as there are lots of delays and cancellations, but you have to stay focussed and positive. GBS has remained busy and I am pleased with everyone’s hard work towards the shows.”
Asked whether he could provide advice to the Botswana sporting landscape as it emerges from COVID- 19 lockdowns, Farrell said: “Find the right partners that understand your goals, and promote events that are aligned with your sponsors’ expectations. Boxing is a business, a platform which, if promoted correctly could reach millions of potential viewers, and that’s a great market exposure to a sponsor. In short, always look after the people that are supporting you. If you do that you are on the right track.”
Regarding his long term plans and inspiration to stay in Botswana, Farrell said: “I love Botswana and the people here are great. Right now, this is my home with my amazing Motswana wife, Lebo. I do hope in the future to promote shows here. That’s if I can find the right partners and sponsors to work with.” Farrell further explained that Botswana has so much to offer the world traveler, including commercial investment. “If I promoted shows here, it would generate local jobs, increase tourism and have many more positive commercial impacts to the country. I’m always open to discuss my plans for Botswana, if someone is ready to listen, invest in and shares my vision.”
