Internal wrangling wrecks cycling
Three members of the Botswana Cycling Association ( BCA) have recently tendered- in their resignations following protracted internal wrangling and differences. In a brief interview with BG Sport recently, BCA president Mmetla Masire confirmed the resignations. “Yes, I can confirm that there are members of the BCA Exco, who have tendered their resignation letters, these being: Vice President , Kagiso Molatlhwa, Public Relations officer, Game Mompe and additional member, Shimane Serameng.”
Masire further explained: “Out of respect for the three mentioned above and the governance process, I cannot comment anything else beyond this point.” Trouble at the BCA has since unravelled after this year’s Annual General Meeting ( AGM) was postponed as they could not form a quorum. Following the postponement, some BCA exco members resigned in protest. BG Sport is in possession of a leaked resignation letter addressed to BCA president, Mmetla Masire and dated 19th September. “I hereby tender my resignation from the position of Vice President, BCA, with immediate effect. From the many meetings and endless engagement with you, I have no doubt that the reasons leading to the decision are well known to you,” the letter signed by Molatlhwa reads.
Cracks at the cycling association stem back from August 2020 when four members of the Cycling Association wrote to the association leadership and affiliates venting their frustration over lack of cooperation from president Mmetla Masire. “We write to you as concerned members of BCA Exco; we bring to your urgent attention a number of issues of concern and discontent within the BCA Exco. As the people to whom the BCA is supposed to be accountable, we found it fit to bring these issues to your attention, for your intervention as all efforts to resolve them within Exco have failed. We presented these to BCA President
