Mamelodi appointed to assist BFL transformation
Following successive engagements between the Botswana Football Association ( BFA) and the Union of European Football Associations Assist ( UEFA Assist), local football stalwart, Bennett Mamelodi has been appointed as the Project Manager, tasked with the transformation of the Botswana Football League ( BFL).
Mamelodi’s appointment was confirmed by BFA President, Maclean Letshwiti this past Tuesday and his core responsibility will be the implementation of the defined 12 fields of action, as contained in the FIFA Botswana Strategic Plan of June 2020 on a 6 month assignment.
The 12 points of action aimed at transforming football within all stakeholders, are new governance and business model, corporate identity, communication strategy, marketing strategy, broadcasting rights, sponsorship, technology, players, coaches and referees, fans, sustainable football, women football league and lastly, corporate social responsibly. “Bennett brings a wealth of experience, quality and expertise to this project and I believe that he will be able to fulfil this mandate. Let us all support this appointment as well as the process, to ensure that the project is a success and the BFL can be transformed to become a structure that we can all be proud of,” said Letshwiti.
By working with UEFA’s five sister confederations and their member associations, the Assist programme contributes to the global development of football, by sharing the experience and know- how of UEFA and its member associations outside Europe. It does this by funding a broad range of projects that are implemented in close collaboration with UEFA’s five sister confederations and their member associations. Botswana stands to benefit from a wide array of UEFA Assist agendas, quite key being Pillar 1 on Capacity Building, which focuses amongst many things on League Development Programme - an in- depth operational review of the competition structure as well as the commercial, financial and governance aspects of a domestic league.
