GARDENING WITH GRACE

A centre that offers all things plants

- PHEMELO RAMASU BG REPORTER

Loago Tshomane has transformed her love for flowers and plants into a safe haven for those who share the same passion with her.

This past Friday, Tshomane officially opened doors to what promises to be a hit for plant lovers. The place is none other than Seasons Grace Garden Centre. Even long before the centre opened its doors, those with a keen eye for all things plants had already spotted it, and were frequenting, hoping to claim a plant or two, and grow their collections at home. The centre is located at the Game City Mall. It is hard to miss a place like this one, for it just commands this big presence.

A walk into the centre for many, including this reporter, who is still learning the ropes around the plant/ gardening world feels like a child walking into a candy store. Eyes darting from one corner to the next, seeing the array of collection of plants/ flowers, accessories for garden and container/ flower plots, and leaves in a daze. When you walk, you need to walk in with a clear plan of what you are going to do or else you will walk out with a broken heart, and an empty purse. Canna Lillies, and Mosteras, Dahlias, Brazilian Joyweeds also known as Little Rubies, Apaganthus and so many more, Tshomane has gone all out to quench the thirst of plant lovers. Even more incredible is how she was set on going beyond just selling plants. She is very passionate about plants, and is always ready to share as much knowledge as she can. She also goes further by assisting her clients to plant their trophies.

Plant lovers will also find that she is stocking a wide variety of gardening products such as flower pots/ containers in all sizes, and she will soon be selling plants fertilizers.

BG Style recently caught up with her for this fascinating hobby. A self- taught gardener, Tshomane studied for a Finance Degree in Cape Town. The mother city captivated her with its beauty, and the beautiful gardens captivated her more. Reminiscing about those early days, she shares that she used to go to places such as Kirsten Gardens where she would be blown away by its intricate beauty. She would wonder during those visits why Botswana didn’t have something similar. The fact that some Batswana were also not very fond of gardening kind of baffled her. New home owners, would opt to pave their yards instead of cultivating gardens. And when she bought her very own home, that is when she really started to experiment and see where her blessed hands will take her. In her world, she tells this publication, she does not believe the myth where some people will think that they do not have green hands. This is something that she wants to change. And says that sometimes these people fail to cultivate anything as it might just be a matter of not knowing how to take care of their plants, and what to use.
