“Le Pelong Ya Moleepi”
The Botswana Vaccine Institute ( BVI) recently launched its new 2021- 2025 Strategic Plan, through which it seeks to diversify its product portfolio, ensure sustainable growth and profitability and boost operational efficiency.
When launching the 2021- 2025 Strategic Plan, Acting Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security Hon Beauty Manake lauded BVI as a critical Pan African Institute that is important in the development of the livestock industry in Africa. She added that BVI has over the years remained self - sufficient, funding its own operations and only seeking assistance where absolutely necessary. As the sole shareholder, Government has provided financial support to BVI in major infrastructural projects needed specifically to ensure adherence to international pharmaceutical standards.
Hon Manake further said the BVI Strategy is aligned to Government’s Reset Agenda and the National Transformation Strategy. As it improves its research capabilities and forges partnerships with like- minded organisations, BVI will also ensure that Government resources are streamlined and used efficiently.
“I am particularly impressed by the tagline for the strategy, which translates to ‘ where there is a will there is a way.’ I have no doubt that BVI will be able to persevere and succeed in this endeavour,” said Hon. Manake in conclusion.
For her part, BVI Board Chairperson Ms Mpho Mphafe- Fish said the 2021- 2025 Strategic Plan will enable BVI to improve its domestic offerings to better aid Government’s efforts towards promoting the growth of the local livestock sector. Ms MphafeFish further explained that the BVI strategy is driven by two main strategic goals; the first being ‘’ Four for Forty,’’ which aims to reduce over reliance on FMD and have four products contributing 40% to BVI sales revenue by 2025. The second strategic goal is for BVI to build Africa’s largest vaccine bank. BVI staff will also go through a culture change management program geared towards promoting a high- performance culture.
When presenting on the 2021- 2025 Strategic
Plan, General Manager Mr Andrew Madeswi said BVI will look into the future through targeted investment and innovation in areas that will catapult it into a leading player in vaccine research and development, manufacturing as well as sales.
“BVI will also achieve sustainable growth and profitability by setting itself- up for long term success through mutually beneficial partnerships. This will also be achieved by intensifying incountry Research and Development and obtaining the relevant certifications,” said Mr Madeswi.
The event was graced by Cabinet Ministers, Permanent Secretaries, and Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Captains of Industry as well as the BVI Board, Management and all Staff Members.
