Entrepreneur aims to establish an entrepreneurship hub
Market Players director Katlego Mokgethi intends to sell the country to the world through the first 21 km for 21reasons half marathon to be held next week.
The 21 km for 21 reasons half marathon will be held under the theme, ‘ Entrepreneurs as a key to economic recovery’, and its aim is to raise funds to establish an entrepreneurship hub, the first of its kind in Botswana.
Guests have been invited from outside the country while South African media will be approached to cover the event, interview local entrepreneurs and visit local tourist sites.
Mokgethi said it is important to market Botswana as a good place to conduct business, create partnerships, and also as a key tourist destination which would in turn improve business opportunities for entrepreneurs in the country.
Mokgethi noted that women make up close to 60 percent of the selected entrepreneurs, and are the focus demographic in all the entrepreneurship development programmes.
“Most recently, select women exhibited products that were manufactured by local women- owned enterprises at the Intra- trade fair held in Durban, South Africa, in November 2021.”
Market players have been lobbying organisations and businesses to come on board and extend support to this noble initiative of creating a hub where entrepreneurs will be given technical skills, access knowledge and resources, and fine- tuned on improving their product and service offerings.
Mokgethi said so far, they have received technical support from SMEs but they still haven’t secured enough and so appeal for input from the corporate sector.
The main event will include a panel discussion dubbed 21km for21 reasons, with entrepreneurship development at the top of the agenda in Botswana’s economic recovery and sustainability efforts.
