The log leaders still want to beef up squad

Gaborone United are still in the market to sign players before the transfer window closes in a few days, as they prepare for the final stretch of the fixture congested season and possibly losing players due to injuries.

Innocent Morapedi’s club is credited with interest in Elias Mbatsi , who has been linked with a move to the capital city, following the arrival of Thero Setsile at the Reds. The Reds have since signed Onkabetse Makgantai this week after recently acquiring Setsile from Orapa United when the January transfer window opened.

The Red’s coach has confirmed that they are not satisfied with the players at their disposal and they are deep into the market should the right players become available to them. If allegations and rumours of GU’s intentions to raid Orapa United of their prized assets in attack are anything to go by, they will complete a double sweep on the mining towns’ backed clubs, following acquisition of Thato Kebue, Lebogang Ditsile and Kabo Phiri from Jwaneng Galaxy in recent transfer windows.

“We cannot say we are satisfied with the players that we have, but I would be too greedy to say what we have now isn’t one of the best assembled in the market,” Morapedi said on Tuesday.

“We have the capability to drive our target with the players at our disposal, So far we have won the FA Cup with what we have. That should also serve as a motivating factor for us.” he added.

“If possible we can add some few, one or two, but if nothing is available, we go on with what we have. I can’t complain, what we have is capable of taking us to achieving our mission.”

The local league fixtures are coming thick and fast with some sections of the football fraternity fearing for fatigue, burnout and injuries on players.

He said: “Fatigue is also a worrisome factor in our football but it depends on how we train,” he asserted despite most opinions pointing out that teams do not have rest nor enough time to train as some play three games in seven days.

“It’s an issue that we have to deal with professionally. We know how much it takes to avoid too much fatigue. Fatigue is not always something that is brought in by congested fixtures or games. You can get fatigued if your training methods are not up to date or over train unnecessarily or you don’t know the athletes’ body works.

“I respect our physical training coach; he does his job and knows what he is doing. The technical team is also up to date. I don’t doubt any member. We have Pontsho Moloi, Tshepo Digangwa and Khalid Niyonzima.” GU has already missed their talisman to injury, as he has been out of contention for a few games already, yet Morapedi dismissed talk of the injuries coming as a result of fatigue. “Players like Thatayaone Kgamanyane will be injured here and there but we have to manage them. It’s not easy for a player like him to avoid injuries. You find that in games, either tactically or deliberately, he would be targeted by opponents. We are with him in prayers that he may avoid as many injuries as possible. Fatigue is a manageable issue, it depends on the training and what we want to achieve in the short and long term.”
