Gaborone features on Litfest Bergen
The 2022 live Literature Around the World
The Gaborone Book Festival ( GBF) is delighted to announce that it will be part of the 2022 Live Literature Around the World ( LLAW), which is in its second year running. LLAW is organised and curated by the Bergen International Literature Festival ( LitFestBergen) in Norway. LitFest Bergen has invited festivals and literature centres worldwide to create literary programmes on their own stages with their selected
authors and other artists. Beaming to the world this February 5, from 1500- 2100hrs ( Botswana Time) on YouTube, LLAW will take viewers on a literary voyage to every continent. The Botswana segment will air at 1800hrs local time.
Apart from Gaborone, and Bergen Norway, who are the hosts, other cities featured at LLAW 2022 are Perth, Australia, Shanghai, Kina, Jaipur, India, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, Cheltenham, UK, Paris, France Poços de Caldas, Brazil, Budapest, Hungary, Toronto, Canada and Berkeley, USA.
The segment curated by Gaborone Book will feature Botswana’s contemporary authors being: Botho Lejowa, Tlotlo Tsamaase and Tomeletso Sereetsi. The local host and moderator will be Radio personality, Cathy Malejane. “We are honoured to have been selected by LitFest Bergen to be a part of LLAW 2022. Tlotlo Tsamaase is a Motswana writer. Tlotlo’s novella, The Silence of the Wilting Skin, is a 2021 Lambda Literary Award finalist and was shortlisted for a 2021 Nommo Award. Her story ‘ Behind Our Irises’ is the joint winner of the Nommo Award for Best Short Story ( 2021).
Botho Lejowa is an author, whose second novel, Meetings with Death was published in 2021. Her debut fantasy novel, Leah: A Seer’s Legend was published in the UK in 2015. She is a fellow of the African Writer’s Trust Publishing Fellowship Programme ( 2020) and the winner of their 2020 Publishing Fellowship Programme grant. Tomeletso Sereetsi is the author of the book, The Solo Four String Guitar of Botswana, a folk guitar instructional manual. Tomeletso is also a composer, guitarist, producer, arranger, and singer behind the music at Sereetsi and the Natives ensemble.
