Kgosipula Charity tournament returns

- BG correspondent

Although the Kgosipula Brothers Charity tournament took a major blow from Covid- 19 in the past two years, things are getting back on track as the tournament will return to action during the Easter holidays.

With the virus seemingly slowing down, there is hope that the tournament this year will be bigger and better according to Siamang Kgosipula, who is one of the co founders of the charity tournament. “We had a major setback due to Covid- 19, but we are using the experience and connections we acquired from our 1st Tournament to better our journey to the upcoming Tournament,” Kgosipula said. He added that the tournament could have been in its third year and they would be going into this one with vast experience and a few sponsors.”

This year would be our 3rd annual Tournament but because of Covid, we had to cancel the event; we lost a lot of money and potential Sponsors. We spent money on preparing Tickets, car stickers, flyers, radio adverts, and banners which are now not relevant.” Even this year, Kgosipula says Covid- 19 still affected the timing of the tournament because they were not sure if they will be given the green light to host events and tournament.

“Even now when we seek Sponsorship from companies they say they are still recovering financially from Covid, so you can see we are affected.”

The Community of Kumakwane at

large is expected to benefit from this tournament which will be hosted at Cheekers grounds, “We are planning on building an outdoor gym for the public. We encourage healthy lifestyle.”

In the future, there is an intention to seek sponsors well in time to have plenty of time to plan thoroughly for the event. “We would also like to have

Ladies teams in our Tournament competing for the Prize money. Mostly, we would like to have other sporting codes bless our event, the likes of Karate and Athletics.”

The tournament first started in 2019 by the three goalkeeper brothers Siamang, Keagile and Karamelo Kgosipula, it will be in its second year.
