FINALLY, MISS WORLD 2021 FINALE

- PHEMELO RAMASU - BG REPORTER

This Sunday morning, March 13th, the Top 40 Miss World Queens are slated to arrive in Puerto Rico for the highly anticipated grand finale of the 70th edition of the Miss World beauty pageant.

The longest reigning Miss World, 26- yearold, Toni- Ann Singh of Jamaica will finally crown her predecessor on March 16th. She was initially penciled to hand over her reign in December 2020, but the pageant was moved to 2021 amid the escalating cases of Covid- 19 across the world. On the brink of crowning a new queen on December 2021, the organizers decided to postpone the pageant to this year after close to 17 positive cases were recorded within the pageant, hours before the finale.

Out of the 40 women, Africa has an incredible representation from Botswana, South Africa, Kenya, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Somalia, Guinea, and Cameroon. The African women have been doing very well in terms of ratings and predictions. In Southern Africa, Miss South Africa, Shudu and Miss Botswana have done very well at the pageant. Both are the crowd’s favorite and it remains to be seen if one of them or even with a stroke of luck, both make it into the Top 16. Miss Botswana herself has enchanted not only Batswana but almost a good majority of pageant lovers across the world. Ever smiling and radiating sunshine, her blossoming personality has literally set many hearts on fire during the hectic schedule of the Miss World pageant.

In the history of the pageant, the last time that the continent won the title happened to be in 2014 by South Africa’s Rolene Straus. Botswana’s Emma Wareus came close in 2010, walking off as the First Princess. Other queens from the continent who have won the blue crown include Agbani Darego ( Nigeria) in 2001, Anneline Kriel ( South Africa) in 1974, and Penelope Coelen ( Miss South Africa) in 1958 as well as Antigone Costanda ( Miss Egypt) in 1954. Predictions are coming in thick and fast that history might possibly be made when one of the two West African countries could walk off with the title of the most beautiful women in the world. These are Miss World Cameroon, Audrey Monkam, and Miss Ivory Coast, Olivia Yace. Yace has done very well when it comes to fast track events that were held in December of 2021. She clinched the Top Model fast track event, and also did very well at the Head to Head challenge. Now, predictions are coming in that the 23 year- old is on the brink of taking the crown to West Africa. Standing at 1.80m, fluent in Spanish, French and English it is very hard to miss this queen and her whole presence at the pageant. If she fails to get the crown, she might possibly be in the Top 3.

Besides the African queens, Venezuela, that has won the pageant six times, might snatch it again. Represented by Alejandra Conde, the third year medical student. The other favorite is the stunning Miss India, Manasa Varanasi. India is one of the leaders at the pageant, and they are always in the Top 16. India has won the pageant close to four times.

The Top 40 is inclusive of Miss Poland, Miss Hungary, Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Colombia, Miss Czech Republic, Miss Norther Ireland, Miss France, Miss Ecuador, Miss Bahamas, Miss Malaysia, Miss Brazil, Miss Madagascar, Miss Indonesia, Miss Trinidad & Tobaco, Miss Argentina, Miss Canada, Miss Dominican Republic, Miss Ireland, Miss Somalia, Miss Chile, Miss China, Miss Sri Lanka, Miss Vietnam, Miss Phillippines, Miss England, Miss USA as well as Miss Iceland.
