THE SWORD OF MOCHUDI 2 PREMIERS

- BG REPORTER

Ashort film, The Sword of Mochudi 2: Birth of a Giant, is slated to premier this Saturday. The production is conceptualised by a cast of talented actors and actresses from The Dow Academy ( TDA). The premier will take place at the New Capitol Cinema ( Acacia Mall), and is strictly by invitation.

Birth of a Giant comes on the backdrop of the much successful first film that premiered in January last year. The story was written by Ari- MC Pictures and Unity Dow as discussions with ( TDA) Standard 6 pupils evolved. The whole idea behind the production is to inspire the pupils to see superheroes in their own culture. Its credits include TDA Media Club, Ian P Universal, Ari Mc Pictures on production, and Ian Venganai and TDA Media Club as Directors and Writers. Packed with action, suspense and intrigue, the trailer to the film literally takes one on a rollercoaster ride of superheroes and villains. A very worthy production to watch; the film showcases the future of the local film industry and its potential to attract international audiences. Beyond, it promises to open many doors for the cast and crew who tirelessly toil on the production.

According to Doru Aldea, who is the Chief Information Officer for the Dow Academy, the first film took them by surprise as it garnered international recognition. The short film, he says, received a nod at the Golden Short Film

Festival 2021, where it was nominated under three categories, namely Golden Actress for Palesa Montshiwa, Golden Actor for Marshall Dzikiti ( TDA PE Teacher), and Golden Editing for Ian Vengani ( TDA Media Club Instructor). “This official selection into the festival opened more opportunities with Kweli TV in the USA, and placement on the UPIC Tv catalogue. The first film takes viewers through the fascinating legend of Matsieng, as passed down from Generation to generation. The story follows the tale of two brothers, Lowe and Matsieng, who resided with their families in the belly of the earth. The two brothers made a pact that Matsieng, who grew curious about what was really happening on the surface of the earth would go up, to check the surface and return to report back his findings. Matsieng embarked on the journey to the unknown, emerging at the now Matsieng heritage site, where he found a newly made earth surface. It appears that the creator had just finished work, and the rocks were still soft. Everywhere that he looked, fruits and all sorts of food was abundant. Fortunately, or unfortunately for Matsieng, he loved this new found place and never returned back to his home of Tintibane kwa Ga Lowe. In this adaption of the film, the story follows the last royal of the Matsieng Kingdom, a princess who must guard a gourd which has been passed down over generations. Giving insight into The Sword of Mochudi 2, he explains that 7 learners created this second instalment. “This second instalment is testament that dreams come true with a little bit of courage, creativity and community participation,” he explains.

In the prequel, he shares that audiences are introduced to the Malachites who came to earth to seek refuge.
