National Spatial Plan 2036 approved
19 000 Batswana allocated plots in current financial period Govt commences issuance of Secure Land Titles
Several urban areas will benefit from the National Spatial Plan ( NSP) 2036, which will see several areas across the country getting a financial injection to bolster developments in the areas.
This is meant to accommodate growing populations due to urban migration and also spearhead mechanisms to improve economic activity and establish thriving economic hubs.
Minister of Land Management, Water and Sanitation, Kefentse Mzwinila told Parliament that one of the areas set to benefit from the NSP 2036, which has been approved, together with 5 200 allocated plots in the fast- growing village is Tlokweng, which bears a high population of the Gaborone excess numbers of urban migration.
Mzwinila said as the country goes through the final phase of the National Spatial Plan ( NSP) 2036, 19,915 unserviced residential plots have been allocated under the 2021/ 2022 financial period, from the target of 26 000. In addition, 653 plots have been allocated in urban areas and 511 individuals are on the waiting list. Mzwinila said all these are plans to address urban migration and ensure that as populations increase in semiurban and urban areas, there is sufficient land for development and living space for people.
“We have 11 new planning regions under the National Spatial Plan, which include Kasane, Molepolole, and Tlokweng, which are highly populous areas,” he said. He noted that the development plans for the latter- mentioned areas have already been completed and approved. On the Gaborone City Development Plan 2022- 2046, Mzwinila said the plan is to elevate the capital city to a world- class urban hub with improved urban amenities, mobility, and inclusive neighbourhoods, among some development mechanisms. He said the project, which started in February 2022, will end in June 2022. Also on the cards is the Maun Development Plan and the Segoditshane River Corridor Master Plan, which is anticipated to be completed in June 2022. The Francistown Development Plan is currently at the procurement stage. Furthermore, Government will from next week commence the process of issuance of Secure Land Titles, in efforts towards ensuring a good land administration system that will guarantee partnerships and security of land tenure. Mzwinila said this development will also help facilitate access to credit and also support land property and taxation processes.
