“COSAFA deals with BFA and we have not had any report from them regarding this case, we have not heard anything from COSAFA. From our end we heard of the allegations but formal complaint processes have not reached us and it has been difficult for us to establish the truth on the matter,” BFA official, close to the matter shared. The referee, who officiated at the COSAFA women championship 2021 qualifiers told this publication that, as far as she is concerned, the matter is still under investigation.
“I have written a complaint letter to both CAF, COSAFA and BFA on the matter and I am waiting for their feedback and or update on the case,” The referee, who would not be drawn to divulge more on the case responded.
It has since emerged that, former BFA CEO, Goabaone Taylor had tasked the BFA’s referees’ office to set up a commission of enquiry to look into the matter but nothing has materialized after she was shown the exit door at Lekidi.
Furthermore, this publication has gathered that the veteran referee has been omitted from officiating local games, following her complaints; however CAF has continued to give her assignment outside the country.
Although sexual abuse occurs within sport, locally there has been few reports of such as athletes hardly formally report the cases while perpetrators remain active participants.
There has been no formal reporting channels within local national sport associations and victims often have to report through a central part of sport codes hence the cases ends internally. Recently, a Sport Management Agency held workshops with all leaders of local sports on safeguarding frameworks in sport.
