Tafic FC prefers surviving relegation

- BG reporter

Debswana First Division South ( DFDS) Tafic Sporting Club has placed relegation survival as a paramount objective in the next coming weeks, the Francistown based side tossed Botswana Football League ( BFL) side Notwane out of Orange FA Cup over the weekend in the round of 32 and will face Matebele FC in the last 16.

In an interview following his victory over Notwane, Tafic Coach, Lovemore Mokgweetsi indicated that although their progress in the FA Cup is important, he stated that surviving relegation is very important to them. “We don’t know where we want to finish but it’s important that we survive relegation, the FA cup might be important but not as important as surviving relegation; we will play this tournament next year but if we relegate it’s going to be difficult to promote.”

Tafic are second from bottom in the DFDN with 14 points from 15 games and they are just on the brink of relegating should they not get their act together in the next coming games.

Nonetheless, he said their progress in the FA cup will somehow motivate them to survive relegation, “we are going to be motivated to survive relegation now that we have won against a Premier League side.” Tafic has had a shoestring budget and their progress in the Orange FA cup will somehow come with monetary rewards, therefore the management will wish they progress in the tournament. The Orange FA Cup continues this weekend as Calendar Stars host the rampant Gaborone United at Obedi Itani Chilume Stadium on Friday while BIUST All Stars hosts Extension Gunners at Serowe Sports Complex on Saturday.

Lobatse Sports Complex will host Township Rollers and Security Systems while Black Forest welcomes Jwaneng Galaxy in Mankgodi. Holy Ghost, who eliminated Orapa United, will want to slay another giant in BDF XI this Sunday when the two teams lock horns at Holy Ghost Park in Mmopane.
