Natives Experience at Maitisong

Sereetsi & the Natives to showcase new sounds

- PHEMELO RAMASU BG REPORTER

Aweek ago, Tomeletso Sereetsi of Sereetsi & the Natives shared a post where he was teasing the Natives about hosting a three hour show at Maitisong. Long story short, the post received an overwhelming response from the Natives who have been longing for an opportunity to experience the Sereetsi magic. So overwhelming was the response that Sereetsi & the Natives is presenting The Native Experience with Friends this coming May. The event is slated to take place on May 28th at Maitisong. Tickets are P250 regular ticket and P200 for early bird ticket, which ends on May 5th.

Speaking in an interview with this publication, Sereetsi explains that the Natives demanded that as a matter of urgency, he should furnish them with a date, and avail tickets for the show so that they can enjoy the experience. After all, it has been a while since they have enjoyed some good music. Interestingly, this will be his first show after the release of his third studio album, I am Afrika.

He explains that they called the show, the Natives Experience as it will afford the Natives to enjoy all of the discography of Sereetsi & the Natives in one night.

“This is a rarity,” he explains.

He further states that since the entertainment industry was opened after the Covid- 19 shutdown, they have been booked in a handful of shows, and corporate gigs. The standard with these events/ gigs is that they do a 60 minutes set, which normally leaves out at least two thirds

of their discography.

“The Natives Experience provides the full menu of the Sereetsi & the Natives buffet, which runs through a slew of unreleased numbers and three full albums, which are Four Strings Guitar Confessions released in 2015, Motoko released in 2018, and recently, I Am Afrika released in 2021,” he explains, adding that they will play music from I am Afrika, as well as the two other albums and also dish out some unreleased songs.

“I have some talented young musos in the band who I am also going to show off,” he adds.

He also shares that their long time venue sponsor, Maitisong, jumped at the opportunity to partner with them. Maitisong, he says has become their home, and it is there where they have hosted some of their best shows. And over time, the Natives, says Sereetsi, have come to expect only the best shows from Sereetsi & the Natives at Maitisong.

“Maitisong is also a very secure and classy venue, purposely designed for performance art which makes it a joy for both the theatre goer and the art creator,” says Sereetsi.

Sereetsi further explains that for this particular show, they will be joined by a number of artists/ friends, who will all play live. This, he says will be a true celebration of live music.

“The dress theme for the event is proudly African because all acts on the night will be dishing out rhythms that are rooted in the motherland,” he says.

Meanwhile, he is working on touring and promoting I am Afrika. He is also working on writing new music to be released by the third quarter of the year, if all goes well.
