Mamelodi, BFA contract comes to an end
UEFA Assist officials reportedly visited 12 countries prior to their visit to Botswana and it appeared that Botswana was the only country that had a project manager who is not within the aforementioned structures.
Quizzed on whether the BFA will look for a replacement to take over from where Mamelodi left, Mfolo pointed out that the bulk of the work has been done and what is left is with the BFL structures and therefore there will be no one appointed to succeed Mamelodi. “We are not going to fill the position because the implementation of the work will now be done by BFL CEO and BFA CEO will provide the support of monitoring and evaluation as the owner of the project. Where we are now is just about implementation. For me, Mamelodi has done what he was expected to do,“the BFA CEO explained.
Mfolo further revealed that the BFA will closely be monitoring the alignment of BFL constitution to that of the BFA and other administrative issues including signings of Memorandum of Agreements.
By working with UEFA’s five sister
confederations and their member associations, the Assist programme contributes to the global development of football, by sharing the experience and know- how of UEFA and its member associations outside Europe. Botswana is expected to benefit from a wide array of UEFA Assist agendas, quite key being Pillar 1 on Capacity Building, which focuses amongst many things on League Development Programme - an in- depth operational review of the competition structure as well as the commercial, financial and governance aspects of a domestic league.
UEFA assist officials held a five days’ workshop in Gaborone last year as the BFA continued with their efforts to transform the status of football in the country. All 16 members of Botswana Football League ( BFL) attended the workshop as they were taken through their paces to transform into elite football brands. The teams were expected to have submitted their turnaround strategies to Mamelodi but that process got delayed as some clubs were reluctant to submit their plans to the project manager, who is also a member of rival outfit.
