- Andrew Maramwidze

As the tourism industry slowly emerges from the COVID- 19 pandemic related collapse, recognition awards have been launched to motivate stakeholders in the sector to excel and prop up growth.

The awards, dubbed Botswana Travel Tourism Award ( BTTA), launched this week and are expected to put tourism players on the spotlight.

Organisers of the awards, Remmogo Foundation, a local youth company, says tourism players have been through a rough patch, despite their potential on the economy, which has inspired the awards.

“We know the industry has potential and we need to celebrate and empower people in the sector,” said Re- Mmogo Foundation, Chief Executive Officer doubling as BTTA Charperson, Kagiso Morebodi.

“Tourism has been one of the hard hit sectors and needs to be resuscitated,” said Morebodi, citing that the initiative is in line with President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s Reset agenda of making Botswana a tourism hub.

The inaugural Botswana Travel Tourism Awards 2022, to be held under the banner:

‘ Re- generating Botswana’s Tourism through Culture, Heritage and Creativity’.

With fifteen categories, the awards are expected to recognize a wide range of stakeholders and players in the industry.

Morebodi said the awards will celebrate the best travel company, best safari company, best air Charter Company, best hotel, best lodge, best campsite, best guest house, best youth in tourism, best heritage site, best photographer, best cultural activities, best media and best ecotourism destination, best female in tourism and best male in tourism.
