ETF ‘ s turnover soars
Exchange Traded Funds ( ETFs) turnover increased significantly to P104.6 million in the seven months period ended July. During the same period last year, the funds’ turnover amounted to P70.1 million. The turnover was recorded from 693,444 units traded thus far in 2022 in comparison to 402,544 units during the same period in 2021. According to Botswana Stock Exchange Market Performance Report, the NewGold ETF, BASBI ETF, NewPall ETF and NewFunds ILBI ETF prices gained 2.3 percent, five percent, 6.5 percent and 7.7 percent respectively while BAMIB50 ETF declined 26.1 percent. Trading activity on BSE during the seven months period in 2022 increased by 109.7 percent from the corresponding period in 2021. During this period the BSE recorded two large trades that contributed to the highest and second highest turnover in a single day in 2022,
of P186.8 million and P142.9 million. These trades occurred on 23rd March 2022 and 17th June 2022 and have joined a series of significant trade milestones in recent years including: P1.1 billion ( 2021), P149.8 million ( 2019), P458.6 Million ( 2018), P484.6 Million ( 2017) and P494.3 Million ( 2016).
