BRUSH NIGHT

- BG REPORTER

Local company, Ground Work is pencilled to host a One- day solo exhibition, featuring one of the greatest and legendary visual artists, namely Wilson Ngoni.

The event, dubbed Brush Night with Wilson Ngoni promises to be a spectacular evening. The highly celebrated Ngoni is a one of a kind artist, famous for his immaculate skills when it comes to telling different stories of Botswana and her diverse wildlife, through the oil paintings medium. Besides his successful career as an artist of note, he also happens to be a published author with two books under his belt, songwriter and singer with recorded compositions.

His two books are ‘ Doors to My Eyes, My Journey through the Corridors of Art’, and ‘ Living with the Brush’, both self- published in 2014 and 2021 respectively. His third book is said to be on the pipeline. The event will take place on September 17th at the Airport Junction shopping mall, basement parking.

According to the event synopsis, the event will have three elements namely Visual Art Exhibition, Music Exhibition and Live Interview. Organisers are promising to giving attendees a VVIP experi

ence as they will be able to view the art works of Wilson Ngoni that will be displayed. Beyond this, they will be able to watch the live musical performance featuring Ngoni. Most importantly, they will have access to his published books and also be able to listen to him talk about his passion for art during the live interview segment of the event.

Explaining the dynamics of the event, event Organisers, Keoagile Bonang of Ground Work explains that all artworks that will be displayed that evening all belong to Ngoni.

He also says that his largest artwork to be displayed that evening happens to be 6 x 1.7m in size. The big surprise for the evening is that when it comes to the music segment of the programme, Ngoni will be supported by artists such as Mophato Dance Theatre, C. Ru, QueRap, NaniB, Dj Pee Master and Dj Armstrong & Kingdom Band.

Masters of Ceremonies for the special evening happen to be none other than Lisa Mags from Posh & Lisa Design, Loretta Mekgwe from The Art Lab and Radio personality, Brando Keakilwe. “Guests will also have the privilege to taste an eclectic array of wines, served with some nibbles and they will also take home a signed copy of Ngoni’s book titled Living with the Brush.” Bonang also shared that the event is made possible by the support of companies such as Khumo Property Asset, Alliance Francaise Gaborone and Shiez Valley. But he pointed out that they are calling for more sponsors to come on board to make the event a success and celebrate the living legend in visual art.

In conclusion, he highlights that they came up with the concept because Art is about connecting with people’s emotions.

“It is personal and at the same time, universal. Ngoni describes art as a visual language, it is the recording of time that artists use to sensitise the public about what they see,” he said. He also says that Botswana has iconic visual artists who deserve to be celebrated for the years they have been part of the art world.
