MAREKISETSO MARKET GOING STRONG
The Marekisetso market is celebrating its one year anniversary in September. Director at the Marekisetso market, Rahman El- Kindiy, acknowledges that it has been a great year of growth in terms of grooming cottage businesses. “We are expecting a successful event like usual this month and we hope more people will come for the unique and lovely experience,” says El- kindiy. He shares that most people have been exhibiting products manufactured at home and he is glad that the products are penetrating big retailers. “It is a good feedback to see products from cottage yards displayed on stores’ shelves. This is what we pushed for and we congratulate the business owners, especially those who make juices as they are doing very well, “he shares. He adds that those in the Food industry also continue to get private calls regarding their freshly organic foods. The Cresta Lodge based event boasts in best locally made products, and the fact that it is a free entry even exposes exhibited goods not only to the locals but to visitors from different countries, accommodated by the hotel too. The live music always gives the event real atmosphere, allowing attendants to enjoy and do leisure shopping while chilling. El- Kindiy also notes that, their training on cottage industry development, will take place in October and he is hopeful that the workshop would continue to groom the small business owners. On the day, Coffee lovers will be treated to their hot beverages as usual, with options of chocolate and marshmallows, sweetened or without milk.
El- Kindiy further applauds Cresta Lodge for the continued support and notes that stall holders from the event are already benefiting from the Cresta Connect Card’s benefits of discounted rates. Plant lovers always get enthused at Marekisetso as there is always a variety of indoor and outdoor plants on sale. Julia Farmer, who has been supplying locally grown wholesome and organic farm produce in Gaborone for over 10 years, was also there for this month’s edition which was held this past Sunday. El- Kindiy reiterates that they are optimistic about elevating small business, through their Marekisetso platform.
