ABOUT MASISI COMING LATE

-

It has been revealed that some members of the Botswana Democratic Party are not happy with President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s persistent late- coming. This revelation was made following the party’s national congress in Tsabong where Masisi was, once more, unfashionably late on the very first day. BDP members are not being realistic. Former president Ian Khama told a South African newspaper that Masisi kept him waiting on the day ( April 1, 2018) that he was to transfer power to him.

If Masisi could keep a president waiting, he would certainly not be bothered about keeping BDP members waiting. The other point is that their leader’s late coming should cause them to reflect deeply on not doing things at the scheduled time.

For decades, the BDP has been quite comfortable telling the nation that development projects are not delivered on time because they are still in the “pipeline.” It shouldn’t be surprising to anyone that the president of a party that delivers projects late also comes late because late- coming is a deeply entrenched party culture. If Masisi’s late- coming bothers party members, they should consider how a nation that has put up with their party’s late delivery of projects for decades feels.
