BPC to float citizen- only solar tenders

BPC Board Chairman, Oboetswe Motsamai highlighted that the Corporation is implementing the second year of its five year strategy, Maduo26, and one of the strategic objectives includes increasing the portion of Renewables in the Energy Mix. “The Corporation views Independent Power Producers ( IPPs) as strategic partners that are an integral part of achieving this goal, through the provision of alternative forms of energy that are clean and affordable.”

Over the years BPC has been trying some ways to reduce operational costs and reduce power imports as Morupule B Power Station remains the single largest factor in the financial sustainability of the Corporation due to high dependence on power imports to meet the local demand. The Corporation is currently undertaking remedial works programme at MBPS to rectify the construction and equipment defects and it is expected to be complete by 2024.
