ALFREDO MOS IN CONCERT
With Kapenda Katuta
The king of Rhumba, Alfredo Mos and Kapenda Katuta are working on an exciting collaboration. The two are slated to host a very intimate evening of Jazz and Rhumba at the Molapo Showcase on September 29th. This will be the first time that Alfredo Mos works on a concept like this one.
The whole idea is that he wants to tap into the mature audience who have journeyed with him for years. He wants them to experience his music in a different atmosphere. The Molapo Showcase has a seating capacity of about 150 people, and it will be a totally new experience not only for Alfredo and Katuta, but for the audience as well. In the past, Rhumba fans have been familiar with a whole new venue, and places that might have turned some fans away. He also said that they wanted their fans who have been with them since day one to be able to buy a ticket and not worry about their safety. Entrance to the show is P200. Speaking in an interview with Style this week, Alfredo Mosimanegape, said that this event was specially targeting a mature audience. He said that they are known for hosting events in less upmarket venues, and that they were hoping to change this with this particular event. “The intention is that we will have other similar events in future,” he said noting that they were also looking at high profile audiences such as Ministers who can easily buy a ticket and come through to enjoy themselves.
Alfredo also revealed that the event will start at 1800hrs- 2200hrs. “This is a show for a mature audience as you can see the time of the event,” he said. He further explained that he will be accompanied by a 14- piece band inclusive of dancers. Most of the songs, he said will be played in a more relaxed tempo such as Malala Tswii, Ipabalelo tseleng, and Lerato ke sethunya, and that Katuta will also play his set which will mostly be songs from his jazz album. Mosimanegape has been in music for 35 years. At 60 years, he has 17 albums under his belt which include Botshelo, Motho, Leineng la lerato, Ipabalelo tseleng, Lwantshang borukhutlhi, Bakgweetsi, Ditsala, Bua le nna, Go riling, Ipotse, O nkgopole, Mpha lerato, Re tshwana rotlhe, re a maduo a lerato, selabe and his most recent being Emisang Kgokgontsho ( released in 2020). He also has three compilations which include Best Kwasa 7, Best of, and Very best of. He has recorded five Music DVD, Live at the National Stadium, Live at Lions Park, Mphe Lerato, and The best of.
