NGONI BRUSHES THE NIGHT

-

Renowned local visual artist, Wilson Ngoni held an art exhibition under the theme, Brush Night with Ngoni at the basement parking area of the Airport Junction mall.

Wilson has been at the helm of the local art scene for over two decades and the art exhibition featured over 180 artworks which he has done over the span of his illustrious career.

The art exhibition began with attendees touring the exhibition area before being treated to a mini painting class, led by Wilson painting his famous five dots on an empty canvas and urging the attendees to try it out. Ngoni took time to explain to the art enthusiasts about his creation process, and that as any true artist his creation method requires isolation and silence. He explained that there is a lot of symbolism in his art that needs one to observe his work closely. Ngoni’s work covers a wide range of topics. Spanning from romance and sex to war and poverty. The diverse artist explained that he is not satisfied with the number of artworks he has done as he still wants to create more art.

Ngoni said that over the years, he has grown in the art space and now he imparts the knowledge to young artists. He stressed that the hardest part of teaching art to others is trying to pass on the innate art of painting. Ngoni urged the artists to always value their work and never ever give paintings away for free. He explained that art is a valuable creation and it takes so much to put an art piece together hence the creators of artworks must first value their work and demand value from other people.

“I am a very fortunate artist,” Ngoni expressed gratitude to the fact that his artwork can come out exactly the way he has envisioned it, furthermore, he says sometimes the art that he creates come to him in the form of dreams. Ngoni stated that he was amongst the first Batswana artists to try new concepts in art. He explained that one should not fear breaking barriers as this could be the missing key to their artistic success.
