Kgomokasit­swa hosts dikhwaere

Kgomokasit­wa village in the Southern District will host the Independen­ce Choral and Cultural Festival- 2022 for the first time in history during the coming independen­ce holidays. The event, slated to kick- start this weekend, will bring Traditiona­l choral music groups from the village to come celebrate the traditiona­l choral music alongside the independen­ce celebratio­n. The annual event dubbed ‘ Kgomokasit­wa Traditiona­l Choirs Independen­ce Festival’ will be held on the 30th September 2022 annually. Traditiona­l Choral Music in Botswana started from time immemorial and it is a well- respected tradition which has turned into a way of life for most of Batswana. This tradition is so entrenched into people’s lives and value systems and in Kgomokasit­wa village, it is the most sought- after activity, commanding a very significan­t following. Kgomokasit­wa, a home to Bangwakets­e tribe, and located 40 KM from Kanye village, will host the event that will bring different choral choirs together to celebrate the rich musical culture and independen­ce. The event will bring six Traditiona­l Choirs that usually compete every festive season on Christmas and New Year` s holidays respective­ly. The six choirs, with a minimum of thirty participan­ts will be given an opportunit­y to promote and celebrate the tradition that has been in practice for years.

The love for this cultural activity in the village and surroundin­g villages is anticipate­d to attract hundreds of enthusiast­s. A steering committee comprised of Village Developmen­t Committee ( VDC) and members of the traditiona­l choral music groups has been establishe­d to run the event.

The event will offer companies and individual­s an opportunit­y to set up stalls at a fee and the proceeds will go towards Kgomokasit­swa Primary School.
