“If we host, we will be able to revamp our facilities and the legacy programs will go a long way to promote our development programs,” he added.

Botswana Softball community has already shown their capacity to host world events as Baseball and softball leaders from over 130 descended in the country to participate in the II WBSC World Baseball Softball Congress back in 2017. In addition, the excitement surrounding softball was very much apparent over the weekend and there was unmistakable joy that echoed across a packed national diamond grounds.

The Softball leadership also introduced mini- league competitions which aided a smooth transition to competitive play and the move did not disappoint with the recent Archein BSA Independence Tournament proving to be a success. “It was an exciting event, despite it clashing with other independence celebrations events. We saw a massive turn- out and the tournament itself was very competitive. We are thankful to our sponsors [ Archein Hardware] for helping us to deliver a successful tournament and they were also happy,” he said. Archien Hardware injected P250 000 into the coffers of BSA to deliver the Independence cup finals with the winners walking away with P20 000 and Police 9 women’s team winning the inaugural spectacle whilst BDF IX won the men’s final. Just under a month ago, the national senior men’s softball team failed to qualify for the World Baseball Softball Confederation ( WBSC) Softball World Cup 2022 but the team showed tremendous effort before succumbing to a 3- 4 loss to hosts South Africa.
