Botswana Softball Association have expressed keen interest to host next year’s Africa senior women softball qualifiers to the world baseball championships.
According to the BSA President, Katlholo Mosimanegape, they have already submitted necessary documents to express their intent to host the games which are slated for February next year, they however will face a stiff competition from Uganda.
“We have a bid to host the Africa senior women championships qualifiers which are set to take place next year.
We want African countries to come to Botswana to compete in an event which will see two African countries qualify for the world championships and face champions from other continents,” Mosimanegape shared. He said they are expecting feedback from Africa Softball officials this week after submitting the bid before the set deadline on the 15th September, 2022. The BSA president says he also made presentations ( virtual) to the continental body to further argue their case to host the games. “We met the deadline and on the 28th of September we made our presentations before the Africa board and we are confident of our bid,” he said. He further revealed that the Botswana National Sport Commission have given them the permission to advance their interests which also signals the government’s intent to support their case. “The protocol of Botswana sport is that, you cannot host any major event without BNSC’s approval, we followed the right channels; once we get the results, be it negative or positive, they will be updated accordingly,” the BSA President shared. Mosimanegape went on to highlight the importance of hosting the games, adding that should they be successful in their bid, it will go a long way to impact the economy of the country through sport tourism.
