The recently held Badminton Masters hosted has been called a resounding success and Botswana Badminton Association mouthpiece, Thobo Tshosa believes the tournament can attract more youth to the sport. Tshosa says the reception at the tournament was great and most players were excited that the event was successful. “We had approximately 25 players, this is quite a big number for us but we intend to grow it even further by hosting many other tournaments similar to this one.” However, he says the veterans initiated it and showed interest. “It caused a lot of positive commotion in our Facebook page honestly and we are grateful to the veterans.” Additionally, he says the older generations are the parents and guardians of the young ones and also an inspiration to them. “If we wish to lure funding for development, the older generation has the potential to play a role in that.” Our intention is to host it annually, however, following the massive interest of people who attended and those who heard about it, we will then have to do it more than once in a year.”

Mixed doubles champions, Godwin Mathumo and Connie Motsholapheko won gold while Anil Mathews and Kamya Arun Iyer walked away with silver. Men’s singles champion was Walter Kololo who won gold, Godwin Mathumo took silver. Connie Motsholapheko won gold in the ladies singles while Kamya Arun Lyer got silver and Sharmila Reddy settled for bronze.
