Botswana imports more from SA
South Africa remains Botswana’s main supplier of goods as Statistics reveals that Botswana imported 69.8 percent ( P4, 834.0 million) of total imports during August 2022. Botswana imported goods worth P6, 9 billion, with the SACU region contributing 76.3 percent ( P5, 2billion) to the total. Fuel and food, beverages and tobacco contributed 27.1 percent ( P1, 3 billion) and 19.7 percent ( P950.3 million) to total imports from that country, respectively. Machinery and electrical equipment and chemicals and rubber products followed with contributions of 13.0 percent ( P630.5 million) and 12.0 percent ( P579.8 million) respectively. Namibia contributed 6.3 percent ( P433.4 million) to total imports during the period under review. Imports from Namibia were mostly Fuel at 86.8 percent ( P376.4 million) of imports from that country. During the month Asia supplied imports worth P558 million, representing 8.1 percent of Botswana’s total imports.
