Border Gate Mall

-

The project, which is being developed in three phases, is expected to create 700 jobs both permanent and temporary across all economically active ages. This will create more than P50 Million cash flow in the micro economy of Tlokweng every month.

The Minister added that the project will also encourage the infusion of an entrepreneurial culture where communities are encouraged to learn and adopt existing and new entrepreneurship traits and progressively promote global competitiveness. “This is particularly important in these times of changing economic environment,” he added.

Speaking at the same event, which was attended by the business community and village leadership, Tlale said the Border Gate Mall will create more opportunities for the village and surrounding areas. “Our ultimate vision is to create a better life for our employees and the communities that we operate in. Our company portfolio spans from commercial, residential, industrial and agricultural properties in various parts of Botswana and South Africa,” disclosed Tlale. In fact, the expanded mall is expected to have a permanent impact on more than 25 000 families in Gaborone and surrounding areas.

Border Gate Mall sits on a 3.5- hectare piece of land. Within the mall, there is a 3500 square meters of retail development and a fuel filling station. According to Tlale, when all expansions are done, the mall will be an exclusive, mid- market centre, which will offer a lifestyle and recreational experience, never seen before in the village.

In addition, Border Gate Mall will provide retail solutions with a 14.000 square metres of retail and commercial development. The tenancy mix of Tlokweng Border Mall will veer towards offering envisioned lifestyle and recreational experience. There will also be a health and wellness centre. There will also be two ( 2) anchor retail tenants targeting distinct market segments. In addition, some of the tenants across various sectors such as banking, up market restaurants, clothing & furniture shops, open theatre, internet café will be housed within Border Gate Mall.

As a responsible corporate, which supports strong Corporate Social Responsibility ( CSR) values, Chobe Real Estate has also announced that once the mall is complete, there will be 10 permanent kiosks to house hawkers who currently operate outside. According to Tlale, the hawkers will be housed for free. “This inclusivity approach will create economic beneficiation through business spillage to all those who operate the businesses around the development. Formalisation of this ( erection of kiosks), will be done in partnership with the Tlokweng Sub Council,” said Minister Kgafela.
