MISS BOTSWANA’S CASE AGAINST RASTA
The last we heard, a Zimbabwean Rasta artist appropriately called Rasta the Artist was in town – Gaborone – for another one of his artistic sorties into what are otherwise friendly SADC nations. He came before the Miss Botswana contest and with a winner having been declared, Rasta might be inspired to draw her portrait. As a preventative measure, organisers should file an urgent application with the High Court seeking an order that prohibits Rasta from even thinking about doing that. It is good that Miss Botswana is herself a lawyer and can help in drafting the affidavit. As with all of Rasta’s portraits, the one supposed to be Miss Botswana’s would gain a lot of traction on social media and may be seen by people who will judge the coming edition of Miss World. Okay, so they will get to see Miss Botswana in person and realise she looks nothing like the gap- toothed 40- some woman with a weathered face in Rasta’s portrait but the damage would already have been done. On the basis of that portrait alone, negative feedback would be sent to the subconscious mind and the judges would sub- consciously pre- judge Miss Botswana, scoring her very low. Of course Rasta is free to draw Miss Zimbabwe’s portrait.
