INVESTIGATE PARLIAMENT

-

The opening of the parliamentary year is only days away and when MPs start sitting, it should be for interrogation regarding laws they send to the executive. We have reason to believe that after passing in the house, some laws are unlawfully altered and reach the Office of the President in a completely different form. Last year, parliament passed the Economic Inclusion Act which, as the name says, is meant to promote the economic inclusion of citizens in big- money economic activities – not tenders to supply Ipelegeng workers with breakfast. However, something most unusual seems to be happening. Economic inclusion appears to have been extended to certain politically- connected families, which are snagging multi- million- pula after multi- million- pula tenders. Granted, occupation of political office at executive level has been known to trigger latent business acumen in not just the office holder but family members as well. However, what happened with the Economic Inclusion Act strongly suggests that when it was submitted to OP, its name had been changed to Family Inclusion Act. We can’t say for sure that we know what happened, which is why we say parliament should be investigated.
