Aircrafts movement up
Statistics Botswana ( SB), the country’s data authority has indicated aircraft movements in 2021 increased by 73.3 percent last year.
The Transport & Infrastructure Statistics Report 2021 released recently indicates that aircrafts movements jumped from 21,283 movements in 2020 to 36,878.
“Of these, 76.1 percent were domestic, while 23.9 percent were international. Domestic passengers carried constituted 52.5 percent of total air passengers while international passengers made up 47.5 percent,” said Statistician General, Dr. Burton Mguni
He further highlighted that the volume of goods transported through rail declined by 12.5 percent in 2021, from 1,204,981 net tonnes in 2020 to 1,054,118 net tonnes.
“Exports to the north increased by 11.4 percent while local traffic increased by 14.8 percent. Other categories reduced, with the highest decline being in imports from the north ( 30.5 percent) and imports from the south ( 27.3 percent).”
Mguni also highlighted that revenue generated from the conveyance of goods by rail declined by 16.0 percent, from P244 million in 2020 to P204 million in 2021.
