According to him, it is for that reason that, the government of Botswana has been decisive in a strategic matter that relate to petroleum products.
“The geo- political dynamics the world is currently experiencing, especially in the oil producing regions has not left us unscathed as an economy.
“As a country that imports 100 percent of its fuel needs, the surge in global demand for energy especially fuel, has confronted us as policymakers with
difficult tasks to ensure the availability of relevant legislation to ensure fuel security and sufficiency for Botswana,” added Moagi.
A strategic commodity such as fuel requires government to have oversight of how it is procured, stored and managed.
“With Botswana Oil Limited ( BOL) in charge of a significant percentage of imports, the benefits that will be realised will be re- invested into the development of storage infrastructure as well as facilitate real and meaningful participation of citizens in the sector,” the Minister said.
