Botswana Guardian celebrated 40 years of existence in style at the Savuti Restaurant at Avani Gaborone Resort and Casino Hotel recently
The Ruby anniversary brought together family and friends of Botswana Guardian who have been part and parcel of her journey throughout her growth. Speaking at the dinner, Board Chairman of Botswana Guardian, Titus Mbuya commended and explained that newspapers are pivotal in today’s age to keep checks and balances on the government.
He further explained that journalists all over should be aware of their role in ensuring that the government runs smoothly.
Director of Botswana Guardian, Metlhaetsile Leepile reminded journalists not to slack on the work that they are doing. He notes that journalists should always ensure they write quality articles that will hold those in power accountable for their actions. “Botswana Guardian was the first commercial newspaper in Botswana.” Leepile notes that Guardian has stood the test of time, a feat which is commendable. Furthermore, he concluded by noting that the organization must not forget their roots of reporting news of high quality. Investigative news editor of the Botswana Guardian, Dikarabo Ramadubu expressed gratitude to God for keeping him at Guardian for 32 years. He reminisced on the days when
Botswana Guardian was housed at the Main Mall with only one toilet used by both males and females. Ramadubu explained that Guardian is an employer of repute who knows how to retain staff for long. He revealed that the secret to his long and impactful career has been the knowledge that a journalist is as good as his last story. He explained that integrity and fearlessness also contribute to a long and prosperous career in the journalism world. Reminding everyone to not neglect the small stories regardless of how insignificant they may seem. Members of the
Botswana Guardian danced the night away as they look forward to the next 40 years. The event was made possible by the generous sponsorship and partnerships with companies that include KL Cranes & Lifting Equipment ( who gifted staff members with 40 bottles of Prosecco), Cakes N Creations ( for the beautiful designer cake), Avani Gaborone Resort & Casino ( venue and food), Tsompie’s Tea Room ( cupcakes), Kathiku Beverages ( with cocktails made from their diverse products), Perfect Brands Decor ( who transformed the venue), and On the Beat Entertainment ( who set the dance floor alight, spinning the decks).
