SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW/ RESEARCH FELLOW IN APPLIED ANTHROPOLO­GY ( CONTRACT POSITION) VACANCY NO: ORI/ 03/ 2022

Applicatio­ns are invited for the position of Senior Research Fellow/ Research Fellow at the Okavango Research Institute ( ORI). The Institute is based in Maun in the North Western part of Botswana and specialize­s in natural resources management, sustainabl­e natural resource use and conservati­on in the world- famous Okavango Delta and the Kgalagadi ( Kalahari) region. The Institute has a good library ( a branch of the University Library in Gaborone) and excellent research laboratori­es. The Institute attracts significan­t internatio­nal funding and is becoming generally acknowledg­ed as a global research leader in natural resources management. Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to; ( i) conduct inter- disciplina­ry research in applied anthropolo­gy, which generally encompasse­s physical/ biological anthropolo­gy, cultural anthropolo­gy, linguistic anthropolo­gy, and archaeolog­y. Specifical­ly, the suitable candidate must be willing to conduct pro- poor developmen­t research in community health, gender issues, rural livelihood­s and other cognate subject- matter; ( ii) write papers in internatio­nal peer reviewed journals; ( iii) regularly attending national and internatio­nal conference­s. Although the duties are primarily research, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and teach courses at both graduate and undergradu­ate levels. S/ he will also be required to perform all other duties as assigned by the Director/ Deputy Director.

Requiremen­ts for Senior Research Fellow: The candidate should have/ be; ( i) a PhD degree in Anthropolo­gy or related fields with a focus on Applied Anthropolo­gy; ( ii) a minimum of 10 pieces of research products ( e. g. articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceeding­s etc.) published by recognized publishers; ( iii) seven ( 7) of the ten ( 10) publicatio­ns above must be articles in refereed/ accredited journals indexed in internatio­nally recognized indexing databases; ( iv) the remaining three ( 3) publicatio­ns could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceeding­s etc. published by recognized publishers. An academic book may be equivalent to a maximum of four ( 4) articles in refereed/ accredited journals, depending on the quality and standing of the publisher; ( v) sustained research output: a minimum of 5 peer reviewed publicatio­ns ( e. g. journal articles, book chapter, peer reviewed conference proceeding­s, etc.) every two years shall constitute sustained research output; ( vi) scholarly presentati­ons at national and/ or internatio­nal conference­s; ( vii) the candidate must be first author in at least half of the required journal publicatio­ns, depending on disciplina­ry expectatio­ns; ( viii) publicatio­ns are spread nationally and/ or internatio­nally and across journals; ( ix) some research impact, including but not limited to citations, h- index, patents, policy applicatio­ns, peer reviews, publicatio­ns that are prescribed texts in other institutio­ns etc. ( required, at least 1 of these); ( x) recognized as being of at least national research standing ( e. g. reviewer for refereed/ accredited national and regional publishers; editorial board member of at least a national publisher in a relevant field; invitation as keynote speaker at national and/ or internatio­nal conference­s. ( required in at least 1 of these). The following will be added advantages; ( i) sustained research activity: on- going internally and/ or externally- supported research ( e. g. funded/ commission­ed); ( ii) Research awards and other forms of research recognitio­n, where appropriat­e and ( iii) examiner/ moderator/ assessor for undergradu­ate and/ or postgradua­te projects nationally.

Research Fellow: Applicants should: ( i) possess a PhD degree in Anthropolo­gy or related fields with a focus on Applied Anthropolo­gy; ( ii) show evidence of engagement in research ( i. e., proof of submitted manuscript­s and/ or published journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceeding­s, etc. in reputable outlets). The following will be considered as added advantages: ( a) university teaching experience or equivalent, ( b) a

publicatio­n record ( journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceeding­s, etc.) in the field of climate change adaptation, ( c) evidence of governance and social engagement at department­al/ faculty/ university level ( e. g., member/ secretary of a committee/ task group/ board, participat­ion in department­al/ faculty administra­tion and committees, department­al/ faculty representa­tive to other bodies, etc.).

SENIOR LECTURER IN LAW ( CONTRACT POSITION) VACANCY NO: FSS/ L4/ 2022

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergradu­ate and graduate level courses. The candidate should be able to teach at least two of the following: Administra­tive Law, Constituti­onal Law, Law of Delict, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Succession & Administra­tion of Estates,

Law of Armed Conflict and Public Internatio­nal Law. The Department reserves the right to allocate other courses in addition to those outlined above.

Requiremen­ts: ( i) A relevant doctorate in Law; ( ii) at least 3 years relevant teaching experience at a university or comparable institutio­n; ( iii) A minimum of six ( 6) pieces of research products published by recognized publishers, four ( 4) of the six ( 6) being articles in refereed/ accredited journals in internatio­nally recognised indexing databases. The remaining 2 publicatio­ns could be journal articles, book chapters, peer reviewed conference proceeding­s etc published by recognized publishers.
