And most importantly, for those who love their chocolate and a glass of wine, there is something special for them that they can look forward to. Overall, the event seeks to educate Batswana about wine etiquette, including the do’s and don’ts when it comes to sipping their favourite glass of red or white wine.

Highlights of the day include Wine pairing with Wine Maker, Dico Du Toit as well as patrons getting twenty tasting coupons. Tickets are on sale for P250.

The wine culture in Botswana has mixed reviews. Some feel that Batswana are not really a wine nation. While others opine that there is a good number of avid wine lovers, who clearly know what they want when it comes to their favourite beverage.

Speaking in a press briefing, Regional Sales Manager for DGB Wines, Jorge Ferreira, explained that it is an annual event which has not happened in two years due to the Covid- 19 pandemic.

He further said that they are bringing back the wine culture, and education around wine pairing.

He further said that they have a history of excellent wine shows and this event will continue to set trends. “Guests will get a chance to taste new wines, and talk with wine makers,” he explains.

He also points out that they are featuring new wine brands that have been launched recently, which include Boschendal which was launched three years ago, as well as Douglas Green.

He also says that a Cape Chocolateir, who makes chocolates with the inspiration of wines, will also showcase how chocolate and wine can become friends. “Guests will be surprised by what they will experience,” he said.

Public Relations and Marketing Manager for Avani, Samantha Bogopa, explains that Lengau wines as one of their wine suppliers, is their berry suppliers too, and that the wines that will be tasted on the day also happen to be available in their establishment. She explains that they want people to taste and appreciate some of these wines, and get first hand insight from the experts.

“We really want the people to taste and appreciate them as well as meet the winemakers, and understand the different wines that we have in the property. We also want them to learn which wine goes with which dish,” she explains.

She further notes that they will provide a cheese platter which will be sourced from a local supplier who happens to be their client.

“We want guests to understand the type of cheese that we have around so that when they pair their cheese, they will know which cheese goes with what.

And also, we are happy to partner with Lengau, because of the relationship that we have had over the years. It is a good relationship that we are carrying forward, and are including our patrons on this relationship,” she notes.
