The Art Lab debuts paint and sip session
The Art Lab had a successful paint and sip session in collaboration with Mo’s open table this past weekend, where paint and brush lovers refreshed. Although the turn up was low, the art enthusiasts who attended dubbed the event, not just refreshing, but therapeutic. They found all art materials ready for them and most importantly, they were to keep all the canvas they made. They enjoyed the session while guided by the Director of The Art Lab, Loretta Mekgwe, to offer that ultimate Guest Experience at Mo’s Open Table. She is of the view that once in a while, paint lovers need to meet over such a session, just to network, chill, and learn from one another. An attendant at the event, Joseph Wellington Malapa aka Jay Dot, appreciated the gesture and said he would attend such an event again, given a chance. He concurs that painting is somewhat fun and therapeutic.
“To be honest, I was a bit nervous when a canvas was placed in front of me, simply because I had to paint in the presence of seasoned artists, Loretta Mekgwe & Goabaone Mogwe . I gradually settled down and embraced the event. I wouldnt say it was not the first time for me as I once dipped paint brush into paint at The Art Lab and did a terrible job. Like they always say, it’s a learning curve, this time around I did an impressive Microphone painting,” shares the bubbly Jay Dot.
He tells BG Style that this was a really great experience and he encourages fellow citizens to always engage with these kind of initiatives for their mental wellness and relaxation.
The event was sponsored by Jack Daniels, and guests were treated to two Jack Daniels cocktails, welcome drinks as well two sushi servings to indulge as they kept their paint and brushes activated on their canvas. Mekgwe emphasized that the event was meant for team activity, as well as presenting what they have to the corporate world of events. As an artist, she believes that art is an escape space for people to relax and express themselves in painting.
“Art gives us a brief vacation from the stress and pressures we face daily. The
Art Lab is known for enhancing creativity, bringing people together, breaking down barriers, and bringing out the best in individuals and every team,” said Mekgwe. Goabaone Mogwe, the artist also Founder of Africa Art College, acknowledged the event and said as artists they need more of such occasions. “It was a beautiful event which demonstrated that the future of art in the country rests in collaborations between artists
and stakeholders. We can definitely move mountains in the space of art by working together rather than working in isolation. There is a lot of work ahead and 2023 will be the beginning of change for the local arts.”
Mekgwe tells BG Style that, they intend on doing another session at MO’s after the holidays, as they did not get satisfactory turn up for the initial one.” We wish to have a session, once a month,” she said.
