BCA Revives Women’s Tournament
After a hiatus necessitated by unforeseen circumstances, Botswana Cricket Association ( BCA) is set to revive its esteemed women’s T20 international tournament, signaling a triumphant return to the cricketing arena.
The newly branded event, christened, the BCA ‘ Kalahari Women’s T20 International Tournament,’ is scheduled to grace the cricketing calendar from April 20 to 27, 2024. Boasting a lineup of formidable contenders, including Rwanda, Mozambique, Lesotho, and the host nation, Botswana, the tournament promises a riveting display of skill and sportsmanship.
In a departure from previous editions, the tournament adopts a double round- robin format, affording each team the opportunity to clash with all counterparts twice. “This strategic arrangement not only augments the number of matches but also fosters an environment conducive to elevated performance and spirited competition,” said the BCA Vice Chairman, Sumod Damodar. Notably, the tournament garners international recognition as an ICC sanctioned event, with all matches contributing towards the coveted ICC Women’s T20i Rankings, underscoring the significance of the event on a global scale. Damodar said the tournament is a testament to the collaborative efforts of participating teams, stakeholders, and support personnel, “the BCA extends its heartfelt appreciation for their unwavering dedication in advancing the sport.” Furthermore, the association acknowledges the indispensable role played by the media in amplifying cricket’s reach and fostering its growth, echoing its commitment to, “Bringing Cricket to the Nation.” As anticipation mounts and preparations reach a crescendo, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the commencement of the BCA, Kalahari Women’s T20 International Tournament.
