JRK Training and Consulting, in partnershi­p with the global payments technology leader, VISA, are organising Botswana Annual Payment Summit, which aims to provide a platform for industry leaders, policymake­rs, and regulators to engage in lively discussion­s, share insights, and explore opportunit­ies for advancemen­t in the payment sector. e two- day summit which is slated for April 23 and 25 in Gaborone will gather personnel in regulation, banking, finance, telecommun­ications, technology, and ntechs from both local and regional spheres. With a focus on fostering collaborat­ion, sharing knowledge, and addressing industry challenges, the event promises to be a catalyst for innovation and growth in Botswana’s nancial ecosystem. e theme for this inaugural conference is ‘ e Evolving Payments Landscape; Empowering Economic Growth rough Inclusive Payment Innovation.’

Addressing the media on Monday, JRK Training and Consulting Managing Director, Constance Storom said their goal with this platform is to gather local and regional thought leaders and pioneers to e ect true change in the evolving payments landscape. “is initiative was born out of what we believed was a need for our market. Such gatherings are held the world over, gathering industry players to share insights, experience­s, challenges, new and future solutions and technologi­es, however such gatherings are usually held in more mature markets whose players usually dominate the discussion­s.”

She emphasised that Botswana is also moving with the evolving landscape and payment acceptance has now elevated to wallet payments from traditiona­l methods of payments. “However we are at a point where interopera­bility across providers is an imperative, in order to achieve signi cant increase in the digital economy.”

Storom further explained that JRK Training and Consulting is more than just a training and consultanc­y rm as its mission is to bridge knowledge gaps across various industries rst in Botswana and the Region. “We understand that 20 percent of the world’s future jobs will be dedicated to solving the world’s greatest problems, one such being Cyber Security.”

She said the evolution of payments and digitizati­on are ruling the world and changing the narrative in paying and being paid, playing a significan­t role in the digital economy and pressurizi­ng regulators to take into account this evolution and revolution to harmonize regulation with innovation. “Programmes such as Inclusive Digital Economy Training are an imperative in this day and age. No longer is it enough to know the basics of payments. Leaders in organisati­ons ought to explore key concepts such as Digital Economy, Digital Inclusivit­y, Societal Inclusion and intentiona­l ways to leapfrog.”
